: Shepherd’s Bush Market (SBM) and Ramadan Tent Project (RTP) joined forces once again to host Open Iftar at Shepherd’s Bush Market, welcoming more than 300 guests for a joyful evening of connection, culture and community on 22nd March 2025.
Held for the second year running, the event more than doubled in capacity from its inaugural edition in 2024, signalling a growing appetite for inclusive celebrations that open the Market up to both West London’s Muslim community and curious visitors from all backgrounds.
Despite torrential rain and hail causing travel difficulties earlier in the day, the evening went off without a hitch. It began with volunteers transforming sites across the Market, ready for the event; complete with prayer facilities, a marquee, and stalls from sponsors including WWF, Sunna Supplements, Islamic Relief and Remittly. Strawberry Hill Fruiterers, one of Shepherd’s Bush Market’s long-standing traders, generously provided dates and water for all fasting guests.
A highlight of the programme was a heartfelt Bismillah prayer given in Arabic by Ali, a member of the Market’s own security team, just before the fast was broken with dates at sunset.
Guests heard words of welcome from RTP hosts Farah and Alla, followed later by short talks from event sponsors WWF and Sunna Supplements. Fait Mason, partners of Ramadan Tent Project, provided hundreds of freshly prepared meals, including vegetarian biryani and falafel boxes.
A small Ramadan Run Club also made its way through the Market just before Iftar, adding energy and smiles to the early evening build-up.
The event marks a key moment in Shepherd’s Bush Market’s commitment to supporting cultural events, increasing community engagement, and creating a space where all Londoners feel they belong.
